mini sessions vs. full sessions / Flo signorelli photography - maternity, newborn and family photographer near me.

I get a lot of questions all the time about what the difference is between a mini-session and a full photo session so I thought I’d create a post about it, so that you ll have all the details needed before booking your next session!

Mini sessions

The definition of mini session is a short 15 to 30 minute photo session at a specific date and location for a specified block of time that the photographer chooses.

I normally offer them during specific times of year, cherry blossoms, spring, mothers day , fall and the holidays. Mini sessions typically include a smaller number of images with no outfit changes, and usually one background because there's no time to be moving to another one.

The short amount of time DOESN’T mean you won’t end up with lots of images to choose from! I get every combination possible with a mini session! (family photo, mom with kids, dad with kids, siblings together, etc.).

The difference with a full session is that if you have a shy kid or a full of energy kid, they would not be able to get warm or stay for the photo.

Mini sessions are more posed for the camera type of style, to have more candid ones is always better to have a little more time and get to know each other and see what would work for your family.

Now, mini sessions are the best fit for some families because they allow them to update family photos several times a year because of the lower cost.

I have a couple of families that do this and not only is it great to see them every few months and catch up but also see the kids grow and remember me,( that's totally on my benefit haha) it also gives them a full year of photos through the season.

Full sessions

When you book a full session you are going to pick the location, date, and time. I also made a guide with the best locations here in the bay area, for you to choose and start imagining how your family photo is going to look like.

Your session can also include extended family members and have multiple outfit changes and looks if desired. You will also receive more images than a mini session and because we have more time you are going to get to choose from so many!

Now the biggest pro that you have when you book a full session is that it gives the kids time to warm up to me and to the location, that may be a better option as you will have more time to get the kiddos relaxed and comfortable.

With this extra time you can also relax and not be worried that you are not get them smiling or happy in the pictures. I make them have a snack break if they need it, they can run, play and have fun, because we have time! ! I also love this aspect, because capturing kids playing and in their element usually provides the best photo ops. This also allows me to best capture their personality.

Like I was saying before, we are going to walk and find new backgrounds and places and you'll have the possibility later to select the best ones!

To sum up, the best selection for a session would depend on your family and the season of the life that you are transitioning.
